Stage Two of the AVIVA Women’s Tour was a similar day in terms of terrain as stage one, but at 138km it was extremely long. After the neutral zone the race was very steady but after 30km, and as the riders approached the first STRAVA QOM, the speed increased rapidly.
The stage was really defined by a very long break away and a huge effort from Vera Koedooder who break was brought back near the end of the race.
The goal of the Matrix Fitness team for the day was to hold onto the Premier Inn Best British Rider jersey with Elinor Barker and with her safe peloton finish that was achieved.
Laura Trott was active during the stage and Lucy Martin was well placed for the finished but a big result on the day wasn’t to be. Tomorrow is another very long stage, 139km’s from Oudle to Kettering.
Highlights of Stage Two are on ITV4 at 8pm on Thursday 18 June, with a repeat at 11.05am on Friday morning.
