Pre-race nerves, they’re not just for riders

Omloop het Nieuwsblad, or for those of us that grew up a while back, Omloop het Volk, is a pretty big deal. It might not be Tour of Flanders, or Flèche Wallonne, but it’s a big event, with crowds, TV cameras and a lot of nervous riders.

Team Manager Stef Wyman talks about nerves and what goes on behind the scenes in the approach to the beginning of the season.

Omloop het Nieuwsblad, or for those of us that grew up a while back, Omloop het Volk, is a pretty big deal. It might not be Tour of Flanders, or Flèche Wallonne, but it’s a big event, with crowds, TV cameras and a lot of nervous riders. We read a lot about riders’ nerves before events, but I can confirm there are nerves behind the scenes too. This season, it was our opening race, two days after our team launch, and the first time riders and staff had been together. That in itself brings about nerves, for everyone.
